Multotec Wear Linings has a well established, successful track record in the manufacture and supply of ceramic and basalt lined equipment for fossil fuel power stations, including Matimba, Lethabo, Kendal and Hwange Power Stations

 

Matimba Power Station

Multotec Wear Linings was awarded the maintenance contract for the pulverised fuel system in 1992. Since then more than 2500 pulverised fuel components have been relined with the purpose engineered dense alumina ceramic tiles

Designed to generate 3600 MW, Matimba has one of the world's largest turbo-generators using the direct dry-cooled steam condensing system

Lethabo Power Station

Between 1983 and 1986, Multotec Wear Linings manufactured and supplied all ceramic lined pulverised fuel pipe components for original equipment manufacturers. At the time of commissioning in 1990, this 3708 MW giant was the only power station in the world that burned coal with a low calorific value of 15-16MJ/kg and an ash content of up to 42%

Kendal Power Station

Coal pulveriser equipment, including mill discharge boxes, lens disc valves, classifiers and interconnecting duction, was ceramic lined by Multotec. In addition, a total of 319 pulverised fuel elbows and pipe fittings were supplied per set of boilers

When commissioned, Kendal was the larges coal fired power station in the world, producing 4116 MW and using an indirect dry-cooling system

Hwange Power Station

Units 1 to 4 Refurbishment Project. In 1998 Multotec Wear Linings completed the Mitsui Babcock issued contract for the replacement of the cast iron P.F. Pipe fittings (280 items per boiler) with ceramic lined equipment. Refurbished Loesch mill components, including classifiers (4 mills per boiler), were also lined with engineered ceramic tiles at Multotec’s factory and on-site

Phase1 - Units 1 to 4 were commissioned between 1984 and 1986
Phase 2 - Units 5 and 6 were commissioned between 1986 and 1988
